Hold is the co-founder and executive chairman of The National Alliance for Insurance Education & Research. The National Alliance is the largest insurance and risk management education facility in the global insurance and risk management industry. It currently offers more than 2,300 programs for some 125,000 participants annually across the United States and internationally. Hold completed his undergraduate studies in risk management and finance at Florida State University in 1962, his MBA in 1964 and Ph.D. in 1967 from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW-M). Hold has been a faculty member at UW-M and the University of Texas at Austin (UT), where he was an associate professor responsible for the insurance and risk management area within the Graduate School of Business. In 2021, FSU awarded Hold an Honorary Doctor of Letters. Prior to founding The National Alliance, Hold was the vice president for research and development for the National Association of Independent Insurers. His writings have included articles in insurance-related Hold has been honored by the recognition granted by FSU and various insurance and risk management industry organizations. He was inducted into the FSU College of Business Hall of Fame in 2012. In addition, FSU named the College of Business’s program in risk management and insurance after Hold and The National Alliance. He was recognized by Insurance Newscast as one of the 100 Most Powerful People in the Insurance Industry for six consecutive years. And in 2012, he was recognized by Property Casualty 360 as one of the 25 Living Legends in Insurance.
