Education B.S. ’03 Matt Morris (B.S. ’03) has been a practicing civil engineer based in Sarasota since his graduation from FSU. After working with various local companies in the land development industry, Morris founded Morris Engineering and Consulting, LLC, in 2009 and grew the business over 16 years from a sole proprietor to a 35-person, full-service civil engineering firm serving clients large and small throughout the state of Florida. In 2025, Morris Engineering was acquired by Pape-Dawson, a San Antonio-based civil engineering firm with over 2,000 employees throughout the country. Morris currently serves as managing vice president of land development for Pape-Dawson in Southwest Florida. In this role, Morris provides expert guidance for land development projects predominantly in Southwest Florida, ranging from small commercial projects to 1,000+ acre mixed use developments. Morris has been an active member in the American Society of Civil Engineers, Florida Engineering Society, the Manatee/Sarasota Builder Industry Association and the Manatee Chamber of Commerce. In addition to his trade-focused involvements, Morris has served on the board of supervisors on multiple community development districts throughout the state as well as served on the board of the Manatee County Youth Rowing organization. In 2022, Morris was recognized by proclamation of the Florida Board of Business and Professional Regulation for his outstanding achievements over 14 years of service as a professional engineer in the State of Florida, an honor that he was sincerely humbled and grateful to receive. Morris was born in St. Petersburg, Florida, and graduated from FSU with a bachelor’s in civil engineering in 2003 and obtained his professional engineer license in 2007. He currently resides in Parrish, Florida, with his wife Lyndsey (also a 2003 graduate of FSU with a degree in Early Childhood Education) and their three daughters: Sullivan, Cheney and Palin. Morris is actively involved in his church community as well as his community at large in Parrish. He is a member of the FSU Boosters and is actively involved with the FSU Alumni Association.
